hello there.

Hello. I’m Jen Masengarb.

Trained as an architect, my career for the past 20+ years has been devoted to meaningfully engaging more people of all ages and communities in architecture; advocating for the profession; mentoring and teaching the next generation of designers; and serving as a critical – often missing – bridge between the profession of architecture and the public.

I’m a translator of the built environment with experience and expertise in public engagement strategies, exhibition design, writing, design education, architectural history, volunteer management, strategic planning, and digital learning strategies.

I’ve created strategies, written publications, and developed programs at architecture centers in the US and Denmark, arts organizations, history museums, and architecture biennials. I hold bachelors degrees in architecture and American history from the University of Detroit Mercy and earned a masters degree in architectural history from the University of Virginia.

Formerly, I served as the Director of Interpretation and Research at the Chicago Architecture Center. Today, I head up the guides, tours, interpretive gallery hosts, volunteers, serve on the curatorial team for exhibitions, host a podcast of conversations with leading architects and designers, and develop new strategies to engage international visitors at the Danish Architecture Center in Copenhagen.

I hope you’ll reach out and say hello.
